Cellswapper

By eIndia

Smart idea,  but maybe not original- Cellswapper lets users swap cellphone contracts. So if you want to get out of your verizon 2-year contract (who doesn’t) without paying the 250$-or-so early termination fee, then this site is for you. (Although it doesnt have much user base right now). [Link]

There are other sites based on same concept – check out swapalease.com , it does the same for cars since late 1999.

Update: A helpful reader (Brian Woods) pointed out that cell-contract swapping website is a not a new focus. Brian gave me the link to resellular.com (celebrating thier first birthday this month. check out their free offer) and celltradeusa.com (functional since 2003) and wrote that his experience with celltradeusa has been much better than resellular. Apparantely celltradeusa has a headstart in terms of userbase.

Sell swapper is like a day late and a dollar short. There are many other web sites already doing this that have been around for years.

I used two of them a few months back. I had a listing on re sellular and didnt get any responses. However, I had the same listing on celltradeusa.com and I received many interested parties which led to a successful transfer. All in all it is a great concept and It worked for me So I am a celltradeusa fan for life :)

I used celltrade to get out of my Nextel Contract about 4 months ago to get into a Verizon Wireless contract. I will be dumping my Verizon Wireless contract when the I phone from Cingular Wireless comes out and I will be using Celltradeusa.com once again but this time to Get Out!

    Dear Brian,

Thanks for the comment. I was unaware of celltradeusa – it looks like they have a good user base – a critical aspect of any such community based service (they have been around since 2003).

Resellular has been around for a year, as you said. I dont think they have enough people on it to make it useful.

Celltradeusa is a useful site – i’ll post about it soon. Thanks for your input.

I posted my contract for free on Resellular last week and was able to get out of my contract. Any doubters should try it out for free this month.

Thanks for the comment Nancy. I guess we can’t generalize either way based on handful fo experiences..
