Chicken Sexer

January 29, 2007

No..it’s nothing related to adult industry. A Chicken Sexer is person who distinguishes the sex of chicken hatchlings- sorts them into male/female groups. This is a full-time (apparently) job in commercial hatcheries where female chickens are destined to lay eggs and the males end up being lunch or dinner for us.

I saw the episode of ‘Dirty Jobs’ on Discovery where Mike (the host) tries being a Chicken Sexer. Gross.

Ethicist

January 19, 2007

Wikipedia describes an ethicist as someone whose judgement on ethics and ethical codes has come to be trusted by some community, and (importantly) is expressed in some way that makes it possible for others to mimic or approximate that judgement.

I’ve  had personal experience around this one. I was on a corporate call (I work for a big company… :-| ) and people were asking for one for a planned new venture. Geez.

It’s sad to know that our default ethics are down so low that we can predict the need of an Ethicist in a company. Or that being an Ethicist becomes a full-time career possibility. Kinda gives you a hint of where it’s all headed..

Roadkill Collector

Yes, this person’s job is to collect dead animals from roads and highways. How does one apply for a position like that?

Folklorist

January 9, 2007

This one is serious – people actually take this up full-time. Popularized by intereting shows like ‘The Mythbusters’ (Discovery Channel), apparantely they drum up tales of gone era and make money doing that. And to think i went to college for ‘higher studies’.

Avian Vomitologist

January 9, 2007

Owls vomit up little packages of what they can’t digest, and the guy who collects them and sells them to the universities and schools warrants fancy title like that.

Cryptozoologist

January 9, 2007

Answers.com defines Cryptozoology as “the study of creatures, such as the Sasquatch, whose existence has not been substantiated”. So the guy/gal who spends time researching bigfoot, hogzilla or Loch Ness monster can now print out business cards.
