2ReCall is a great application of VoIP technology. It lets you record a phone conversation without any software or hardware, from any landline or wireless phone. The concept is simple- you call their 800 number, and then initiate the actual call to receiver via their VoIP service. Once the call ends, you can log into your 2Recall account online and listen (and annotate) the conversation in .mp3 or .wav format. Obviously, the service is not free, but their plans didn’t sound expensive.

2ReCall
March 22, 2007RedRoller
February 10, 2007Think of RedRoller as the google of shipping services. It lets you search multiple carriers (USPS, FedEx, DHL, etc – all but UPS) from one page. The site is very usable and of course the concept is new. It’s still in beta phase though.
1-800-FREE411
January 17, 20071-800-FREE411 is just like 411, only better because it doesn’t cost anything. In case you wonder who pays, it’s thier advertisers (you are subjected to short ads during the call). And if you are interested in one of the offers in the ads, they’ll connect you to the advertiser.
Very cool concept, and judging by the press and numbers they have made, it is destroying the traditional 411 market. Another great web 2.0 application.
Wikiseek
January 16, 2007Wikiseek lets you search Wikipedia and its external links. I imagine that such a focused search space will deliver high-quality, low-volume content- great precision, if not great recall. The service is in beta right now, but I plan to put a button for it on my browser today.
In case you are wondering, it is Wikipedia foundation approved.
BookMooch
January 16, 2007BookMooch is a online community for exchanging books. You put up the list of books you can trade in, and for each one you mail out, you get a credit in the system. Then you can redeem credits for ‘mooching’ the books you want.
Good concept. No particular business model – it’d funded by a serial entrepreneur who honestly claims that he doesnt need to make more money. That is a first.
Cellswapper
January 11, 2007Smart idea, but maybe not original- Cellswapper lets users swap cellphone contracts. So if you want to get out of your verizon 2-year contract (who doesn’t) without paying the 250$-or-so early termination fee, then this site is for you. (Although it doesnt have much user base right now). [Link]
There are other sites based on same concept – check out swapalease.com , it does the same for cars since late 1999.
Update: A helpful reader (Brian Woods) pointed out that cell-contract swapping website is a not a new focus. Brian gave me the link to resellular.com (celebrating thier first birthday this month. check out their free offer) and celltradeusa.com (functional since 2003) and wrote that his experience with celltradeusa has been much better than resellular. Apparantely celltradeusa has a headstart in terms of userbase.
Conduit
January 9, 2007Free toolbar builder for your website. Your readers/users can download and utilize the custom buttons and links on it. Great idea – seems to be catching on… they have a significant userbase now. [Site Link]
FavIcon from Pics
January 5, 2007This site lets you create a Favourites Icon (called ‘favicon’ in geekspeak) for your website. Very easy to do – just browse for a pic and click the button to generate a favicon. Beautiful. [Site Link]
Amberjack
January 5, 2007Nice little typical web 2.0 utility that lets you create a ’site tour’ for your website. Open-source, Free. Neat. [Site Link]
searchmash
January 3, 2007Google is getting smarter (and you thought they couldnt improve). Check out the beta ajaxy form of google search. Pretty neat idea, I think it’ll catch on. [Site Link]
